I am so untrusting of minors on discord as well as feeling bad for them and I think both feelings can coexist

I have been in public discord communities where the majority of fans are minors and honestly the behavior they exhibit is both inappropriate and shows a lack of caution

There have been kids I’ve seen who immediately post pictures of their face in photo-sharing channels, but it gets worse than that. They’ve posted baby pictures, pictures of them with friends and family members (mentioning those people by name as well) pictures at locations with captions relating that location to where they live (“me at the park by my house!”) pictures of them at school.

If you are on semi-decent terms with these kids, and you ask, they’ll often tell you what state they live in. Plenty of kids outside the U.S. will straight up tell you what country they live in as if to brag. If you ask someone what time it is for them out of concern that they’re staying up to late, they’ll tell you what time zone they live in and often end up talking about sleep schedule, home life, etc.

Kids will turn on their cameras in a public vc if someone else has theirs on too. Kids will feel embarrassed that they’re on mute in a vc and always explain it with “my mic isn’t working,” never, “I’m not comfortable sharing my voice”

They’ll share personal information like interpersonal relationships those in the server aren’t a part of. They’ll link their other social medias, even private ones. They’ll introduce themselves in introduction channel with real name, age, and often their neurodivergency or even their triggers. And if you have a vent channel, they’ll use it like a substitute therapist.

If you’re a minor in a public Discord server, I get that you want to make friends, I really do. But you have GOT to be so careful in these situations. You CANNOT trust people, no matter how nice they are to you. You should ALWAYS exercise caution when operating and being part of a discord server. Please, this is not me being a wet blanket, this is me trying to help you be safe.

(P.S. Imo, minors should never be mods if 18+ people who know what
they’re doing are on the server)

And also, if you’re a minor, for the love of god don’t talk about nsfw topics with adults. I don’t care how “mature” you think you are, I don’t care how comfortable you are with said adults, DON’T DO IT.

Don’t bring it up, and if someone else brings it up, tell them you’re uncomfortable with it. If you’re under 18, you shouldn’t be engaging in any kind of talk of a sexual nature with random adults.

And if you’re an adult on a public discord, unless you’re in a nsfw channel, don’t bring up nsfw stuff because there might be minors present. It’s scary how many times I’ve seen adults just drop sexual topics into a public chat with no regard of who else might be present.

So yeah. Minors be careful, but also, adults, be mindful of the minors around you. Unfortunately, the internet is not a safe place, so it’s up to us, as responsible adults, to try to make it safer where we can.

Paleontologists completed a life-sized replica of Sue, the most complete T. Rex ever found.

And she is freaking GORGEOUS!

As I read more about this beauty, I found out some new details regarding things I thought I previously knew about the beast that was Tyrannosaurus Rex, and I’m going to share them with you.

First, and most obvious, her size:

This is nothing new, we all figured T. Rex was big, but I for one never stopped to consider exactly how big it was. Nobody ever really knows what to imagine when they read about something the size of a whale that walked around and ate everything it could kill. 

Speaking of eating things, I just want to remind you all that T. Rex had–by miles–the strongest bite of any terrestrial animal living or dead, somewhere around six and a half tons of force. That’s over six times greater than the current estimate of what Allosaurus was capable of, and three times what was delivered by the highest measured reading of the living title holder–the estuarine crocodile. It didn’t have to waste time swinging its head open-mouthed like Saurophaganax for a little extra oomph, or grow fancy serrated teeth like Carcharodontosaurus to cut pieces out of its prey. It opted for the simplest approach: get its mouth around something and crush it to death; imagine the full weight of an elephant on whatever was between this thing’s jaws.

“How did it find something to eat?” I hear you asking. “It can’t see something if it doesn’t move, right?”

Listen, I love Jurassic Park too, but that’s a big crock of shit.

Notice how both her eyes face forward. That gives her binocular vision (the ability to focus both eyes on one target, like you and I). More importantly it means she has impeccable depth perception due to overlapping fields of vision from each, large, eyeball. Researchers agree that T. Rex not only had incredible vision, but that it was probably better than most modern animals–including eagles, hawks, and owls–and that she could likely spot something three and a half miles away. If something that big can see that well, it doesn’t matter if you move or not, she’d be able to tell if it was an animal trying to hide or a piece of vegetation. So pray she isn’t hungry if she lays eyes on you. And even if by some miracle she didn’t see you, she’d still smell you. 

If she decided you looked tasty, you probably wouldn’t hear her coming as much as you’d feel her. Modern science indicates that T. Rex didn’t roar like in Jurassic Park, but rather bellowed or maybe even hissed like crocodilians. If she were on to you, you’d most likely feel this sense of unease creep up your spine as a low-pitched rumble in the air permeated through you. You wouldn’t know what it was or where it was coming from until you hear her footfalls. By then it’s too late–you could try to run but she’d probably catch you. There’s plenty on YouTube that reconstructs what T. Rex may have sounded like, and it’s legitimately haunting.  

To wrap all of this up, the one bit of good that came out of the cursed year that is 2020 is that this wonderful child of science and art came into the world, and reaffirmed my respect and admiration for the eight ton slab of muscle and teeth that is this magnificent creature.

…and it is nothing if not magnificent.

Wanda’s emotional/mental breakdown that caused the Hex opened a pathway for Chthon, or another parallel MCU entity. Agatha was corrupted/manipulated by the Darkhold and lured to Westview in order to help with Wanda’s forging into the Scarlet Witch.
And lo, it is both due to Agatha’s meddling over the series, and her confrontation with Wanda, that Wanda awakened as the Scarlet Witch.

So many of my family members are dealing with this. And they’ve found that the company has made opting out of auto pay damn near impossible. The place where it used to be on the site has changed, calling results in getting disconnected, when they finally found it on the site, it “times out” when they try to cancel….its just a fucking mess.

We got lucky. I’m like 80% sure we have a rate cap because I haven’t seen it spike and I’ve been watching it fairly closely. But I’ve got aunts, geandparents, friends who have had their entire paycheck taken for electric bills when they barely had power for 3 hours over the course of 5 days. Money they needed to replace food gone bad, to fix water damage, to make car repairs, all gone to a bill that shouldn’t even exist because they didn’t even have power for 3 days.

Friendly tip from a long-time bank employee…  If your money is on autopay directly from your account# or card, you can put a STOP PAYMENT on that shit!  But do it at least 3 days before it is due to be pulled from your account.  There may be a $20-30 fee for it, but that is much better than a power company trying to pull hundreds from your account and overdrafting you.

Also, if they already pulled a ridiculous amount of money from you… if you believe that the charges are for power that you did not use you likely can file a dispute with your bank.  If you lost power tell them about that and say that services were not received, or if there are sudden new previously not disclosed fees you can state that the price is different than disclosed. Those sorts of reasons should keep banking systems from messing with the account itself, as it would do for a fraud claim.  Filing a dispute against your power company might not get you your money back, but it MAY.  It may also allow the bank to waive a stop payment fee if you fear a second round of hiked rates.  Just ask the banker about that before filing the stop paymen as some systems will ONLY waive the fee if it’s done DURING the dispute process…. 

But!  You have to remember that the stop payment is there until YOU remove it.  While some banks may remove them after 6 months, or 1-5 years…. it will be your responsibility to remember to reestablish your payment relationship with the power company, and you’ll also then need to let your bank about it when you want to start allowing payments to process again so they can remove the block.

And for those worried that it might somehow look shady: No, the banker will NOT think you’re trying to pull a fast one.  The banker is 10000% likely to be on your side when you explain the situation and ask them questions. 

If this information helps even one person then I’ll consider it a wonderful use of my time to type it out and post it.

This is apparently happening all over Texas, and, this article has a good explanation of why.  

Basically, in Texas’s deregulated electricity market, customers have the option of buying their electricity “wholesale,” which means at a variable rate that is dependent on supply/demand throughout the network.  The wholesale rate is frequently a bit cheaper than the fixed or “retail” rate, but…. If you buy it retail, the company can’t change the price without telling you in advance.  

So, not all Texans will be facing this problem–if you have a fixed-rate plan, your bill should be normal.  

The wholesale rate for electricity in Texas in the winter (usually a time of low demand) is about $50 a megawatt hour.  Last week, rates went up to almost $9000 per MWH.  (On Wednesday, Texas capped the wholesale rate at $9000.)  At those rates, you can rack up an enormous bill even if you only had electricity for a few hours scattered across several days.  

To give some context for those numbers, home electricity bills usually give the amount used in kilowatt hours, of which there are 1000 in a megawatt hour. ;As an example, my last bill says I used about 600 KWH–a bit over half a MWH. (I live in a cold part of the US, but use electricity only for supplemental heat; my central heat uses oil.)  The part of the bill that covers the actual production of electricity for my use was about $40 {assorted fees and charges are about that much again}.  The actual price is 6.17 cents per KWH, which works out to about $60 a MWH–so, if I l lived in Texas, I might have saved about $5 last month buying my electricity wholesale. 

And then this month…well, you know.  

Now, the reason this is important to you even if you don’t live in Texas is, other states allow wholesale/variable rate electricity pricing, too.  Just saying, you may wanna check if you’re on such a plan, and maybe reconsider that decision if you are.  What happened in Texas was a perfect storm–a product of Texas’s unique situation in having a separate grid from the rest of the country, combined with highly unusual weather for the area–but any kind of natural disaster or weather situation that affects electricity generation can cause rates to spike, and give you a whopping bill at the time you’re least able to pay it.  

I’m a bit dubious about the advice above, re: disputing your charge.  Chances are, if you have a variable-rate plan, you signed something with fine print saying this could happen.  Definitely stop your auto-payments, though, and the article I linked above suggests there is a possibility of some state/federal relief down the line.  Keep an eye on your local news sources for more information, as the government and the power companies figure out what to do–at minimum, if people are on the hook for these charges, they’re at least going to have to offer payment plans.
